Botley Bollards

Botley Parish Council have commissioned me to design and build illuminated bollards for a new footpath. At night, and especially in winter, the path is dark and it can feel unsafe. There is no power supply at the site so I have had to design a bespoke solar powered battery system that can keep the lights on even on dark winter nights. I will install a new solar PV panel that charges a 24v battery with low voltage lights in each bollard.

The bollards are robust square with a slanting top, made from Corten steel so they rust to dark brown colour. I have added a cut out native tree leaf to the front of each bollard to add some life into the design. The leafs will be made from stainless steel and finished by hand to give a glittering, sparkly effect to contrast with the dark brown rust. When the lights come on at night the leafs will sparkle and cast interesting shadows on the floor.

There will be 6 bollards with a bench in the middle. The bench will house the batteries and controls for the lights.
